Bill Gates celebrates MSI’s “unsung hero” of the pandemic

In his recent GatesNote blog post, Bill Gates celebrated MSI provider Laxmi Rayamajhi as an “unsung hero” of the COVID-19 pandemic. Laxmi hikes for hours to reach the villages she serves, crossing rivers and landslides.

COVID-19 has created new challenges, as many women are afraid to receive services in-person due to fear of the virus. But Laxmi is undeterred, continuing to travel to remote health outposts and offering phone consultations to women who aren’t comfortable with in-person visits. She said:

“With my efforts, if women’s health gets better, and creates a healthy impact in our communities, I am grateful.”

Laxmi hikes to provide family planning services at Bela, Nepal.

MSI appreciates the support of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in Kenya, India and the Sahel. With their help, our providers are making choice possible around the world.
