Mexico

2022 Impact:

  • 44,000 people using an MSI-provided method of contraception
  • 62,000 clients served
  • 46,000 unsafe abortions averted

MSI Mexico opened its first center in Chiapas in 1999. Since then, we’ve grown to a network of centers across four states, as well as an innovative midwives’ program, which trains traditional midwives and other healthcare providers to offer reproductive healthcare in their communities. MSI providers travel over mountains for hours to reach midwives in remote villages with reproductive healthcare supplies.

Abortion is only legal in some states in Mexico, and women travel from around the country to MSI Mexico for care. By making safe abortion more available, we’re helping to reduce unsafe abortion.

MSI Mexico focuses on educating young people about their sexual and reproductive health. In a country where stigma around reproductive healthcare remains high, we’re equipping adolescents with accurate information, so that they can make the best decisions for themselves and their futures.
