Legacy Giving

Protect choice for the next generation.

By including MSI United States in your estate planning, you can ensure that your generosity will continue to transform lives for generations to come.

For long-range planning purposes, it is helpful for MSI to be aware of possible legacy gifts. We are deeply grateful for any information you are comfortable sharing about your legacy plans and welcome the opportunity to discuss ways to fulfill your legacy goals. As you may know, notifying MSI of your intention is not a legally binding pledge. For further questions or to discuss your goals further, please contact us at legacy@msichoices.org and we’ll get back to you right away.

Have you already included MSI in your estate plans? We’d love to express our gratitude today and discuss how best to honor your legacy. Let us know by filling out this quick form, and we’ll make sure our records our up-to-date.

Types of Legacy Gifts

As you consider what your legacy will be, we recommend speaking with your lawyer, wealth advisor, or accountant to identify the best strategies for achieving your estate planning goals. MSI can’t provide tax or legal advice, but we’re always ready to talk about how your legacy gift can make a difference now and for years to come.

Bequests & Wills

You can name MSI United States alongside other beneficiaries in your will. This can be as simple as including the following sample language in your new or updated will – and you can update your plans at any time.

Sample language:

“I [name], of [city, state ZIP], give, devise and bequeath the sum of $_________ or _________ percent of my estate to MSI United States, a 501(c)3 nonprofit institution incorporated in the State of Virginia with a business address of PO Box 35528  Washington, DC 20033 and a tax identification number of 54-1901882 for its unrestricted use and purpose.”

Beneficiary Designation

Do you have a donor-advised fund, retirement plan, or life insurance policy? You can name MSI US as a beneficiary of this type of asset. There can be an added tax benefit to donating one of these assets to a charitable organization, since this would qualify as a tax-deductible gift. When you speak with your plan administrator, wealth advisor, accountant, or lawyer, you can decide what’s the best approach to distributing these assets.

Similarly, you can designate a charitable organization like MSI US as the beneficiary of bank accounts and investment accounts.

Charitable Trusts and Annuities

These types of legacy gifts can generate income for you and your family, while also planning to support your favorite causes. There are strategies for this type of charitable gift planning, including charitable gift annuities and charitable remainder unitrusts. We work with advisors to facilitate these types of gifts, ensuring that your goals are met and our operational costs remain low. You can reach out to us at usdonations@msichoices.org to discuss further.

Let’s talk about your goals

Whether you have already included MSI US in your will, or you’re wondering about the best strategy for supporting our work, we would be honored to discuss your estate planning objectives and philanthropic priorities.

Legacy giving isn’t just about what may happen in the future. It’s about what you value, right now. We consider our legacy donors to be some of our most important partners and collaborators, and we want to hear from you.

Your generosity will transform the future – and your partnership today will protect choice for tomorrow and beyond. Contact us at legacy@msichoices.org and we’ll get back to you right away.

By letting us know about your intentions to support MSI through a legacy gift, we can work with you to ensure that your generosity makes the biggest impact during your lifetime and beyond.
