Since 1997, MSI has provided high-quality sexual and reproductive healthcare to women in Mongolia. The country has experienced rapid economic development over the past two decades—but nearly 40% of the country still live in hard-to-reach places in the mountains or desert, and just under a quarter live in extreme poverty.
MSI Mongolia is a small program with big impact. Our one center in Ulaanbaatar is situated right near a university, providing contraception and safe abortion care to a high number of young women. But our work goes beyond what happens in the center: We also work with the Mongolian government and partner clinics to train doctors and nurses in providing medical abortion and long-term contraception.
We also provide 70% of the country’s contraceptives through our highly successful social marketing program. By providing affordable, high-quality short-term methods and training providers to offer long-term methods, we’re ensuring that women throughout the country can access the contraceptive method that’s right for them.
