MSI Kenya celebrates a new clinic, UK MPs visit, and health advisory panel appointment

The team in Kenya have been hard at work reaching new partners and clients in their recent initiatives.

Members of Parliament from the United Kingdom visit MSI Kenya

MSI Kenya hosted eight MPs from the United Kingdom who were in Kenya for an official visit. They participated in a series of activities, including a dinner with Kenyan MPs, which provided a valuable opportunity for discussions on shared goals in healthcare and development. The visit was organised by the UK All-Party Parliamentary Group on Global Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights and UNFPA.

As part of their visit, the UK MPs visited Homa Bay County, where MSI Kenya is currently supporting the implementation of sexual and reproductive health services. They met with Homa Bay County Governor, Hon. Gladys Wanga, and other executive leaders to discuss ongoing projects and future collaborations aimed at improving health outcomes in the region.

The team also visited the Ngengu Health Centre, one of the public sector strengthening facilities where MSI Kenya and partners provide and support reproductive health services. Here, the MPs had the opportunity to interact with teen mothers who had benefitted from MSI Kenya’s economic empowerment programme. These young women had been introduced to poultry farming as one of their income-generating activities, an initiative designed to address the triple threat of HIV, gender-based violence, and teenage pregnancy. The MPs were able to see firsthand the high-quality service provision in the facility and engage with the healthcare workers. The teenagers also performed a dance to welcome the visitors.

The unveiling of a newly relocated Kenyatta Market Clinic

MSI Kenya has officially launched the relocated Kenyatta Market Clinic. The clinic, now situated at Sunview Estate, Nairobi, features a modern, well-equipped facility designed to provide high-quality sexual and reproductive health services. Technical services director Dr. Daniel Oketch emphasised that the clinic’s relocation is part of the organisation’s broader commitment to enhancing service delivery and bringing essential healthcare closer to the people.

“The new facility ensures that clients can access comprehensive reproductive healthcare in a comfortable and convenient setting.”

The celebration was lively and engaging, featuring ‘Wasani na Sanaa’, a local dance group that entertained guests with vibrant performances including songs, dance, and spoken-word poetry.

The launch event was attended by key stakeholders, including Ministry of Health officials, the County Health Management Team, MSI Kenya staff, insurance partners, and other collaborators who joined the celebration. The team have also organized roadshows and social media initiatives to amplify awareness about the clinic’s relocation and the expanded services it offers.

Dr. Walter Obita appointed to the Health Advisory Panel

MSI Kenya’s country director, Dr. Obita, has been appointed to serve on the Social Health Insurance Benefits Package and Tariffs Advisory Panel under the Ministry of Health.

The Advisory Panel plays a crucial role in shaping the design, pricing, and equity of services under the new health financing framework to ensure that all Kenyans have access to affordable and high-quality healthcare services.

By being part of this panel, Dr. Obita will contribute to the development of policies and strategies that promote inclusivity and sustainability in the healthcare system.

Dr. Obita’s presence at this level of national dialogue provides an incredible opportunity for MSI Kenya to contribute meaningfully to the development of inclusive and sustainable healthcare systems in the country. His insights and expertise will be invaluable in ensuring that the health financing framework addresses the needs of all Kenyans, particularly the most vulnerable people.
