MSI Malawi at the 9th African Population Conference

The African Population Conference is an annual event that brings together experts, policymakers, advocates, researchers, and providers from across Africa and beyond to discuss sexual and reproductive health-related issues affecting the continent.

This year’s African Population Conference took place in Lilongwe, Malawi, under the theme: “Road to 2030: Leveraging Africa’s human capital to achieve transformation in a world of uncertainty”.

The event, which drew over 600 delegates, offered a platform for in-depth discussions on sexual and reproductive health among stakeholders. Conversations focused on a wide range of topics, including how fertility decline is stalling in sub-Saharan Africa, mental health and reproductive health post-COVID-19, adolescent contraceptive use, early marriage, innovative approaches to SRHR, male engagement in SRHR, and more.

Throughout the five-day event the Banja La Mtsogolo (our Malawi country program) team, led by the Director of Clinical Quality and Training, Charles Mhango, engaged in various discussions – answering questions and exchanging ideas with fellow delegates from various NGOs.

Visitors and delegates were impressed by Banja La Mtsogolo’s commitment to empowering women and young people, especially in the provision of quality SRHR services in hard-to-reach areas.

Many delegates and visitors were particularly interested in Banja La Mtsogolo’s call center, which has been a catalyst for increasing family planning uptake amongst young people in the country.

The event provided Banja La Mtsogolo with a platform to share information with, and learn from, partner organisations.
