New MSI clinic in Birmingham expands abortion access in the UK

This landmark abortion clinic aims to transform access to reproductive healthcare across the West Midlands and UK

MSI Reproductive Choices UK has opened a landmark new abortion clinic, ushering in a new era for reproductive healthcare and significantly expanding access to specialist abortion services for people across the West Midlands and the UK.

The purpose-built clinic is one of the most advanced abortion facilities in the country. Its central location, close to major rail links, motorways and Birmingham International Airport, offers exceptional local and national access, reducing the need for people to travel long distances to receive care.

The new clinic delivers a full range of abortion services in a modern, patient-centred environment. It includes two fully equipped, state-of-the-art treatment rooms, increasing capacity for complex care, and addressing longstanding gaps in abortion provision outside London.

The clinic is designed to prioritise privacy, dignity and compassion. It offers dedicated spaces and highly trained clinicians to support those with different needs such as where termination is due to a fetal anomaly diagnosis or people with additional care requirements. This ensures personalised care at what can be an extremely distressing time, setting a new standard for sensitive, trauma-informed abortion services.

The clinic is also a national centre of excellence for abortion training. As part of MSI UK’s commitment to strengthening the reproductive healthcare workforce, the site will train surgeons from across the UK, supporting both NHS and independent sector clinicians. By expanding training capacity and expertise, the clinic will help tackle national shortages in surgical abortion provision and improve timely access to care.

The opening of the clinic marks a significant investment in the future of reproductive healthcare. By bringing together advanced facilities, specialist pathways and national training under one roof, MSI Reproductive Choices UK is raising standards of care while widening access for more people, regardless of where they live.

Richard Bentley, Managing Director at MSI Reproductive Choices UK, said:

“This clinic represents a step change in abortion care. From its central location to its capacity to support those who require more specialist care, it has been designed to meet real clinical needs and improve access for thousands of people.

“It sets a new benchmark for what abortion care can and should look like, combining compassion, choice and clinical excellence.”

Yvonne Neubauer, Deputy Medical Director at MSI Reproductive Choices UK, said:

“This clinic gives us the space and expertise to train surgeons to the highest standards, strengthening abortion services across the UK. Crucially, it also ensures people from across the West Midlands can access safe, timely abortion care locally, delivered to the highest clinical standards in a modern, purpose-built setting.”

The new clinic complements MSI Reproductive Choices UK’s wider network of services and strengthens partnerships with health systems across the region and beyond. It supports improved referral pathways and greater equity of access, ensuring more people can receive care without unnecessary delays or travel.

With this opening, MSI Reproductive Choices UK reaffirms its role as a trusted provider of safe, compassionate abortion care and its commitment to protecting choice, improving access and setting new standards in reproductive healthcare.
