MSI Ethiopia initiative to help thousands affected by war in Tigray

MSI Ethiopia has launched a project providing comprehensive reproductive health services to women and girls affected by the war in the Tigray region.

The project will deploy two mobile medical teams and provide technical and professional support to 11 medical centers, reaching 100,000 women in Mekelle and the surrounding areas over the next 12 months.

Dr. Emanuel Haile, the Tigray regional health bureau head, noted his appreciation of MSI Ethiopia’s commitment to providing SRH services during the war in Tigray. He also stressed that his office is happy to support the project, which is a role model for other organisations.

Dr. Abebe Shibru, MSI Ethiopia’s country director, underscored the innovative design of this project that taps into domestic financing.

To launch the project, health sector officials and other MSIE partners were invited to an event that was held at Mekelle Axum Hotel.
