MSI at the 2023 FIGO World Congress of Gynecology and Obstetrics in Paris

The International Federation of Gynaecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) brings obstetrical and gynaecological associations from around the world together in the common goal of improving women’s health standards.

The annual FIGO World Congress is the leading and largest global event in gynaecology and obstetrics, uniting 8,000 delegates to learn, share, build alliances, and shape the future of women’s and reproductive health.

Three MSI colleagues led talks at the conference. Evidence, Innovation, and Research Manager, Matthea Roemer, presented on MSI telemedicine models in Ghana, the UK, and South Africa, and shared lessons learned in expanding access to contraception amongst adolescents.

Clinical Quality Lead, Dr Joe Adu, shared insights of MSI Ghana’s telemedicine pilot and the conclusions that it was a safe, effective, and feasible approach.

Dr Patricia Lledó Weber led the MSI Respectful Maternity Care training and shared results on its effect on healthcare workers and patients in Kenya. Patricia also facilitated in the Safe Abortion Care Workshop that FIGO and WHO organized, leading the presentation on the importance of product quality.

The team also engaged in several side events: the Family Planning Global Assembly, Unstoppable Movement of Safe Abortion Care(Ipas, AI and MDM), Barriers and Breakthroughs to Capacity Development (Laerdal simulations) and Breaking the Silence: Abortion in the Arab World (MARA-Med).
