MSI in New York for the United Nations General Assembly

This week, MSI team members travelled to New York for the UN General Assembly, to call on world leaders to stand for reproductive choice in a pivotal year.
MSI at the United Nations General Assemby: our event
On Monday evening, we hosted our United Nations General Assembly and Summit of the Future event with the Government of Canada, Government of Nepal (GoN), SheDecides, FP2030 and Canadian Partnership for Women and Children’s Health (CanWaCH), where we asked leaders to speak out about why they Choose Choice, as well as to share commitments they are making to sexual and reproductive health and rights globally.
We had a fantastic turn out of government and sector partners and individual donors and there was a real sense of energy, defiance and determination in the room in the face of the global anti-rights movement.

MSI in the New York Times
On the same day as our event, we ran a full-page advertisement in the New York edition of the New York Times, to capture the attention of all those attending UNGA, reiterating our key messages for the event.
MSI at the Clinton Global Initiative
The Clinton Global Initiative community also convened in New York this week, and with our partners Blue Ventures, we were proud to be given a platform at the event to announce our commitment to empower women and girls living on the frontline of the climate crisis with reproductive choice. WISH 2 programme announced
At our event on the Monday night and at UNFPA’s event on the Tuesday, FCDO and CIFF shared news of their commitments through the new WISH 2 programme. We are delighted to have been selected to lead the next stage of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office’s Women’s Integrated Sexual Health programme (WISH 2, Lot 1). MSI’s delegation – which included Carole Sekimpi, MSI Africa Director, Simon Cooke, CEO, Asma Balal, Country Director in Pakistan, Inonge Wina Chinyama, Operations Director in Zambia, as well as senior colleagues from our global funding and external relations departments – was busy throughout the week. The team had a packed schedule of meetings and events with new and prospective donors and partners who were gathered in New York, and further meetings in Washington DC in the following days.
